My Gross/Groce Roots:
Simon and his brother Theobald Gross sailed down the Rihne River to
Rotterdam, where they borded the ship Europa after a brief stop over at Cowes
England they sailed across the Atlantic to America. Upon arriving in
Philadelphia, the two Grosses were taken to the courthouse where with other
immigrants they were required to take the Oath of Allegiance. This was on
November 20 1741.
Palatines to PA 1741
The Theobald Groce who accompanied Simon Groce to America remained in
Pennsylvania. The only families that came to Clinton Co. KY were sons of a
second Theobald Groce, who was a son of the emigrant Simon Groce. That is my
line, Simon`s son Theobald Duvall(David)Gross.
Theobald is the name he used in the wachovia church book-gross baptisms, he
also used the name Dewald. Also known as Theolbald David Gross in
Revolutionary War. Other names was Duvall Gross, Tywalt Gross.
My Byrd Roots:
I haven't found my emigrant Byrd yet, still searching. So far back to
Jesse Byrd (spelled Bird in census) in Scott Co. TN. I know he had a brother
William, they married sisters Nancy and Elizabeth Shoopman. More information
on site tree.
